21st Century Coppice Conference: Report
Report of the Conference held at Grange over Sands, Cumbria in 2006
A4 format; full colour; 88 pp.
The Conference was targeted at all who have involvement with coppice woodlands and their future and was the first major gathering of coppice and greenwood workers, researchers, conservationists, land managers, producers, and students since 2001. As such it deliberately crossed the divide between academic study and practical, everyday involvement with coppices with contributions from well-known research workers and woodland practitioners.
The three major themes were 'Coppice and Conservation', 'Management Approaches', and 'Pathways to the Future'. Though based in the southern Lake District contributors took a wider national and international perspective - the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Poland, other EU countries, and Scandinavia were all considered from personal knowledge. Much has changed in the last few years and this was a unique opportunity to network, to share information, and to exchange views between professional full-time workers and amateurs, academics and hands-on practitioners, the long-experienced and beginners.
