'Working Woodlands' is a month-long event celebrating the story of coppice - its history and heritage, those who work in coppicing, and the beautiful and useful items that can be made as a result of this ancient process, sustaining our woodlands and protecting our natural environment.

Things to do
Throughout April and across all floors of Farfield Mill, you can join members of the Coppice Association North West and enjoy interactive displays, children's activities and adult workshops; you can watch demonstrations of coppice crafts, too, such as wood turning, wood carving, chair-making, basket-weaving and hurdle-making.

Things to see
Complementing the 3-D work in the galleries, is an Chair Bodger - Beverley White exhibition of trees and woodland in paintings and original prints by local artists, including Tina Balmer, Sally Bamber, Fiona Clucas, Judy Evans, Brian Fereday, Richard Foster, Martin Greenland, Laura Pendlebury, Eva Ullrich, Charley Whinney, Beverley White, Alan Stones, Rebecca Payne and Janette Phillips. Woodland craftspeople displaying work include Paul Girling, Owen Jones, Phil Bradley and many more.

Things to buy
As well as the paintings and prints, many hand-crafted items are for sale, including furniture, fencing, sculpture, basketry, besoms, hay-rakes, charcoal, firewood, shingles, hurdles and cleft gates.
Demonstrations and Workshops

Each workshop will run from 11am until 1pm and from 2pm until 4pm. Some worksops require you to be there for the whole two hours to give you enough time to make your coppice craft item. All the workshops will include "have-a-go" sessions.

Demonstrations will run for most of the day showing you how many of the exhibit items were made. You'll be inspired!

Please check this calendar before coming to the event to avoid disappointment as the order of events may change! And come as early as you can if you want to try out a workshop!

Parents, please take note! Workshops will involve the use of sharp tools And parental supervision is welcomed!

We will be posting more information about the event over the coming months on Facebook and Twitter (@StoryOfCoppice).
